Shape Shifter (2/2)
Artist: Michelle of Yuhmi Collective
Yuhmi is a pair of shapeshifting hybrid creatures. They met in 1997 on the island of Miami Beach,
Florida where they have been creating together ever since.
Victor is from Mexico and Michelle is a Cuban-Colombian Miami native. Both studied Visual Arts & Design and graduated from New World School of the Arts College.
Influenced by the history of popular culture, together they set sail on a journey to East Asia and back, forever fueling and inspiring their work.
What started as a collective in the summer of 2009, over the years evolved into a collaborative that explores subjects of human ecology through murals, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and stop-motion animations.
A fusion of cultures with a juxtaposed appetite for mixing traditional and contemporary influences.
"Over the years skateboarding amongst many influences has become a part of who we are. We were in our mid-twenties surrounded by a family of long boarders and surfers when we first felt Ohana. Submerged in the culture, our love for skateboarding grew and blossomed into sharing the lifestyle with friends and family around the world.
Through Cuba Skate, we hope to help further inspire a proactive outlook on life, feel good vibes, and a sense of unity." - Michelle & Victor
